Stirling Castle and the Loch Lomond National Park |
| |
Details
Start the tour with a drive to the pretty village of South Queensferry, overlooking the Firth of Forth. Next you will continue northwards where the drive will take you past the attractive town of Linlithgow with its palace ruins overlooking a lovely loch. It was here that Mary, Queen of Scots was born in 1542.
Stirling is the next treat. Here there is an opportunity to visit Stirling Castle. The castle overlooks the ancient city of Stirling and is one of the historic buildings that have come to symbolize the spirit of Scotland. An extended stop in Stirling will allow a leisurely visit to the Castle or the chance to explore the town itself.
A scenic drive continues through the village of Doune, with its 14th century castle to Callander, a pleasant tourist town that became popular in Victorian times. The Trossachs is a wonderful area of lochs and wild mountain vistas. You travel by Loch Venachar then climb the dramatic Dukes Pass to the pretty village of Aberfoyle, where a stop will be made.
You will end the tour on a real high-note as you drive to the "bonnie, bonnie banks" of Loch Lomond. You will stop in Balloch where you can enjoy an optional cruise on the loch or visit the nearby Loch Lomond National Park Visitor Center.
